The purpose of this policy is to:
- Protect the rights and safety of Library users and visitors;
- Protect the rights and safety of Library staff members;
- Preserve and protect the Library’s materials, facilities and property;
- Preserve an atmosphere conducive to the Library’s mission.
Entry into the Library or on the Library grounds constitutes your consent to this document.
- Alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs are not allowed in the Library or on Library grounds.
- Children under 10 must be accompanied by a responsible caretaker.
- Smoking or tobacco use of any kind, including electronic smoking devices, is not allowed on Library property.
- Food and beverages in secure containers are permitted throughout the library with the exception of the public computer stations where food is not allowed.
- Animals are not allowed in the Library, except for those needed to assist a patron with a disability or for use in a Library-sponsored program. Animals may not be tethered at or near the Library entrances or on the Library grounds.
- Photography, videography and any other recording in the Library or on the Library grounds must immediately cease upon request of Library staff.
- Behavior disruptive to Library users or staff is not allowed.
- Distribution and/or posting of materials must be approved by staff.
- Intoxication and/or the appearance of intoxication is not allowed in the Library or on the Library grounds.
- Offensive, threatening, harassing or abusive language or gestures are not allowed in the Library or on the Library grounds.
- Soliciting, panhandling, campaigning, and/or petitioning is not allowed in the Library or on the Library grounds.
- Shoes and shirts must be worn in the Library.
- Blocking and/or congregating near the Library entrances is not allowed.
- Skateboarding, rollerblading and bicycling are not allowed in the Library or on the Library grounds, with the exception of transportation to and from the Library. Bicycles may not be brought into the Library.
- Privileges may be limited or a permanent ban may be issued for repeated disregard for library behavioral guidelines, damaging Library property, stealing Library materials, or disobeying the direction of a Library staff member.
- Physical assault or the threat of violence directed toward Library users or staff will result in a permanent ban.
If a patron is banned from the library property, their presence is considered trespassing and authorities may be called if necessary.
