Some TLC for Teens
The newest addition to the Atchison Library Teen Services is the TLC (Teen Library Council.) This group will be the driving force behind teen involvement at the Library. The first thing on their agenda is creating and posting a daily “Teen Blog” to keep you informed of the all the awesome reading material, games and videos, as well as the exciting teen events that will be happening, at the library. Simply click the TEENS tab above to read the daily postings. They will also be involved in planning programming and events for teens, so if you see any of them in the library be sure to say “hi” and ask how you can become involved or give them your suggestions for new books, games, videos and activities. Country School, One Room-One Nation
Friends of the Atchison Library will host a screening of the documentary “Country School, One Room – One Nation” written and produced by Kelly and Tammy Rundle. The free showing will take place at Theatre Atchison, 401 Santa Fe, Atchison, KS on Sunday, June 26th beginning at 2:00 p.m.
“Country School” tells the story of how one room schools in the mid-west, and their teachers, transformed rough-hewn pioneers and multilingual immigrants into a literate and patriotic new nation. Interviews in the movie feature Atchison County residents Vera Hurst, Emma Lou Nieman and the late Alenna Sanders. These ladies not only attended one room schools growing up, they also taught in one room schools during their careers as teachers.
