It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to long time librarian Betty Sue Thomas. She passed away last Thursday and the library world lost a great advocate. She managed the Large Print collection, Home-bound Services, worked the desk, set a high standard fornthe dress code, and kept the rest of us in line.
She always found ways to better serve the community; by negotiating better deals with vendors, recruiting volunteers, and making everyone welcome. Other libraries sought her advice on creating their own Home-bound programs. When contemplating a policy shift or some other change, it was with cautious trepidation that I would ask "What do you think, Betty Sue?" She always answered honestly, and the library is a better place for her insight. One of my last memories of Betty Sue is her taking a grade schooler on a tour of the children's library. She was asking him what he liked to read and explaining he could always ask a librarian to help him find more. She never stopped recruiting library users.
