Mary's Meanderings

Hello again.  This is a nonfiction book that reads more like a novel.  It's Mrs. Sherlock Holmes by Brad Ricca.  The story takes place in the early 1900's.  Grace Humiston was a lawyer, detective and police consultant.  Her main focus became trying to make the world safe for young women, many who disappeared every year.  The book also tells of some of her many cases.  The Ruth Cruger missing person case made her famous across the country.  But no one today has heard of her.  "The great mystery of Grace's life--and the haunting twist ending of the book--is how one woman could become so famous only to disappear from history completely.  For those who aren't nonfiction fans, give this book a try.  You may become hooked on them.

Food for Fines

It's time for a food drive! The Salvation Army needs some food on the shelves and library patrons need a great way to take care of past fines. Each can, bottle or box of food equals $1.00 off fines. No ramen noodles or food past the expiration date, please. From now until July 31st, you can take care of fines or just drop off food! Items that have been lost or damaged will still need to be paid for the regular way, but ask us if we can find a lower replacement price.

No more fines on most books!

We are going fine free on most books! All adult, children’s and young adult books will no longer accrue fines if you accidentally keep them a bit too long. We do hope everyone will return things on time so the next person can enjoy them!
How does this work?
  1. It starts with books checked out after June 9th.  (Children’s books stopped accruing fines at the end of April.)
  2. Most books checked out from now on will not accrue fines. The only books that will still have fines are the New Books (they have the little sticker with a date) and ILL books.
  3. DVDs and audiobooks will still accrue fines.
  4. Fines from the past are still on your account and can be paid off as usual or can be forgiven by bringing in some food items for the Salvation Army Food Drive which will run through July 31st. Each food item (no ramen noodles, please) equals $1.00.

Mary's Meanderings

I know it's been about a year since by last post.  Too many books and too little time.  I decided to try Fantasy this time.  The name of the book is Lost Gods by Brom.  Don't get scared off by the 487 pages.  It's a fast read.  This is a story about a man who gets out of prison and decides to straighten out his life.  His girlfriend is 8 months pregnant.  They run off to his Grandmother's house so they can get on their feet.  Needless to say, things don't go well and he is killed.  He finds out that his girlfriend's and unborn daughter's souls are in danger.  He goes on a quest to Purgatory to find a key that he needs to bring back to save them.
In his travels, he meets an angel, demons and the old gods.  He gets caught up in a war between the dead souls, demons and gods.  This is the story of what one man is willing to do to save his family.  I think you'll enjoy it.  Look for it in the New Books section.
