As a hobby farmer, I appreciate the rain. As a librarian, I wish it would stay out of the library. Our basement flooded Tuesday night from a blockage outside the library. The library is open, but the meeting room and bathrooms in the basement are being dried and cleaned for the next couple of days.
The sewer line is repaired! We had a very noisy week at the library with the concrete saw and jackhammer running. The good news is the 70+ feet of old sewer line under the basement floor has been removed and replaced.
What did staff do during this time? With earplugs firmly in place, we did inventory.
Regular hours resume on the April 3rd.
Thank you everyone for your patience!
Friendly reminder that we are closed all of next week, the 27th through the 1st, for sewer repairs. Come see us today and tomorrow!!
Hello everyone! Due to the fact that we are going to be closed next week to repair our sewer, we are rescheduling the next Page to Screen event.
It was originally planned for the 30th of this month, but it is moving to WEDNESDAY, APRIL 5TH AT 5:30PM
We will continue with our normal page to screen time in April.
Hope to see you there.
Thank you everyone for your patience and concern. We are happy to report that the library has been thoroughly dried out and we can reopen a day earlier than expected. Normal library hours will resume on Wednesday, March 15th.
We are very sorry to have to announce the continued closure of the library. There are still wet spots in the ceilings and walls that will need extra time with the dehumidifiers and air handlers. We are also having all the attic insulation removed to prevent any mold development.
We apologize for the inconvenience, but we want to make sure the library is clean and dry to prevent any future problems.
We will reopen next Thursday, March 16th.
Of course, there is the sewer repair planned for the week of March 27th. We will be closed from Monday, March 27th through Saturday, April 1st.
We are now in clean up mode! Thanks to everyone who has helped us so far. Thank you Hundley Construction for keeping the books dry and securing the roof, Atchison Police and Fire Departments for the quick response. Special thanks to City Manager Trey Cocking and Project Manager Andrew Dilts for all the advice and support. And thanks to all the Public Works employees who spent the better part of today gathering pieces of the roof and cleaning up!
We will be drying out the carpet and cleaning up for the next two days. The library will reopen on Friday!
Please don't worry about items due during this time. We will remove any fines. If we miss it at check in, just let us know to remove it from your account!
The library will be closed today, March 7th for roof repair.
