All good things must come to an end, including Summer Reading. But don’t worry, we plan on sending it out with a blast. For the first time ever, we’ll be holding our finale party at the Atchison Family YMCA/Cray Community Center! You can swim, play games, eat pizza, or even just read in a quiet corner if you’re not quite ready to let Summer Reading go. The party is Sunday, July 29, from 4-6 pm, and remember that you must complete at least 6 weeks of the Summer Reading program to attend!
Grand Prize winners will be announced at the party, taking home a Kindle (teen) and a family four pack generously donated by the Kansas City Renaissance Festival! (kids) You must complete all 8 weeks to be eligible for the grand prizes! We’ll also be awarding prizes for most minutes read and for our favorite book drawing! The library will stay open until 5 on Saturday to give everyone a chance to drop in and check out the Kansas Room, the mosaic, or the air conditioning.
Page to Screen has changed! It is now Movie Night. Join us on July 26th at 5:30 to watch an award winning movie about a Mother's fight to find her daughter's killer. It takes place in a neighboring state. That is all Licensing will allow me to say. We will provide the popcorn, bring your own drinks. THIS IS A PROGRAM FOR THOSE 18 AND OVER ONLY. Hope to see you there.
On August 2nd at 6:00, we are starting a new book club. It's tentatively call Waiting for the KHC Book Talk Book Club. We will feature thrillers and mysteries with male lead characters. Our first selection will be Relic by Douglas Preston and Lee Child. It is the first in the Pendergast series. I hope to see you there. This is a mystery with a twist. It should be something different and fun.
