Due to the ridiculous heat, we are moving the Ribbon Cutting Festivities for the Mosaic inside. Please join us at 5 this evening!
The 2018 Summer Reading program keeps on rolling along, and the Atchison Library is excited to welcome Will Stuck! This is a show constructed to get you rolling on the floor laughing! Will is going to be sharing some of his favorite songs and stories in a program that includes lots of silliness and audience participation. Hoopla! is sure to be a blast for all ages. Due to the rain, the Summer Sounds Concert will take place at the Atchison Middle School instead of the library courtyard. See you there at 7!
Please join us in celebrating this amazing work of art! On June 29th from 5-7 you will have the opportunity to meet the talented folks from the Atchison Art Association who brought the Tree of Knowledge to life on the library steps. Inspired by Allison McFerrin and brought to life by Lorna Garrison, the mosaic was installed by a group of local volunteers. Public libraries are where knowledge and ideas are nurtured and developed. The underlying premise of the Tree of Knowledge is that what we read, think and say impacts our growth and the growth of those around us. We will begin our celebration with words from community members followed by the Ribbon Cutting at 5:30. The library courtyard will be filled with games, music and refreshments to be enjoyed for the remainder of the evening.
Part of the Summer Reading Program, Family Bingo Night will be fun for all ages! Win prizes when you yell BINGO or by answering bonus trivia questions. Free and open to all ages, not limited to Summer Reading Program participants.
Ever wondered how aquaponics combines hydroponics and aquaculture to grow fish and plants at the same time? Ever wish the library had pet mascots that you could help name? Come to this year's Teen Engineering Event to assemble and start our own aquaponics system which will be on display in the Teen Scene. We will learn about different aspects of water movement and sustainable farming. Those who come to the event will get a vote on what breed of fish to add, and name them! Teens going into 6th grade in the fall or above are welcome at this event, and it is FREE!
Interested in art? And gardening? But can't find time for both? Why not combine them? That's what we'll be doing at Paint and Plant on Wednesday, June 20th at 12:30 for our next Kids Summer Reading Program! Kids who come to Paint and Plant will receive a small flower pot of their own to paint and decorate according to their own specifications, and then they'll be provided seeds and soil to plant their own flowers! This program is FREE and open to kids age 11 and under.
