ATCHISON PUBLIC LIBRARY ILL SELF-REQUEST PROCEDURE

BEFORE you begin please come in, phone 367-1902 ext. 201,
or e-mail
pfuhrman@atchison.lib.ks.us stating that you wish your card
to be activated for interlibrary loan self-request.

1.  BEFORE PLACING AN ILL REQUEST, CHECK THE ATCHISON CATALOG (LINK AT RIGHT) FOR THE MATERIAL CHOOSING ALL IN THE LIBRARY BOX.

2.  To log in to and search the Kansas Library Catalog, click here.

3.  In the box titled “Username or Barcode”, enter your NExpress Library Card Number (do not enter any spaces).  This 13-digit number can be found on the back of your library wallet-sized card. 

4.  In the box titled “Password or PIN”, enter your PIN 4-digit number.  Your PIN was assigned to you when your NExpress card was issued.  If you do not know your PIN, please contact the main circulation desk. 

5.  Click the “Go” button.  This will take you to the main search page of the Kansas Library Catalog.  Be sure the only box checked is the “Kansas Main Catalog”. 

6.  You may then begin your search by using the simple search box at the top of the main page, or you can click “Advanced Search” at the top of the page.

7.  After entering your search criteria, you will be brought to a results page.  Click on the result that most closely matches your request.  If the description of the material IS what you are wanting, refer to the steps “To Make an ILL Request” below.

****If you are having trouble viewing the results page, be sure you have your pop-up blocker disabled.  You may do this by changing the settings on your pop-up blocker to allow pop-ups from the Kansas Library Catalog. 

8.  If the material IS NOT what you are looking for, you may return to searching by hitting the “Back” button on your browser and continue browsing the search results until you find the item you desire.

To Make an ILL Request:
1.  Once you have found the material you want, you may then make the request.  Do this by clicking on the “Request This Item” button in the top right-hand corner of the page.

2.  You will then be directed to the online “ILL Request Form”.

3.  In order for your request to process correctly, enter one of the following:  your phone number, fax number, or your email address (however you wish to be notified when the material is available).

4.  Hit the “Submit” button at the top of the page.  This will bring up a box saying “Your ILL Request is being processed”.

5.  You will then be brought to an “ILL Request Result Page”.  This page will tell you at the top that your request has been submitted.  You may either print this page for your records, or close the page.  You are then left with the Kansas Library Catalog Main Search Page and your results page.

6.  You may close the results page and then you may continue searching for materials or close the results page and “Sign Out” of the system by using the button at the top of the main page.

7.  It normally takes 7-10 days for an item to arrive at the library.  You will be notified when the item is available for pickup.


To Check the Status of an ILL Request:
1.  Sign into the Kansas Library Catalog by clicking here and entering your NExpress Library Card number (no spaces).
2.  Once signed in to the KLC click on the “Patron Menu” option in the top left-hand corner of the page.  3.  Then click on the “ILL Request Tracking” option in the menu box on the left-hand side of the page.

4.  It will then prompt you to enter your PIN (4-digit number assigned to you when your NExpress card was issued).

5.   Click on “Submit” in the upper right-hand corner.  

6.   A new screen will be open and there will be a list of the items you have requested and their status.
