FREE ONLINE TAX PREPARATION

If you can’t afford to buy tax preparation software or pay someone to prepare your tax return for you then consider using an online tax preparation website (click here for links to sites.)  PLEASE NOTE NOT ALL SERVICES ON THESE SITES ARE FREE. YOU MAY HAVE TO PAY TO FILE YOUR STATE RETURN, FOR INSTANCE.

Here are some things you will need to complete your return:
ALL W-2s FROM ALL EMPLOYERS
ANYTHING ELSE THAT DOCUMENTS ANY TYPE OF INCOME FOR 2008
CURRENT STREET ADDRESS
A VALID EMAIL ADDRESS
SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION NOT MENTIONED HERE MAY ALSO BE REQUIRED.

You will need to print out a copy of your return or have some way to save the file, such as a floppy disc or flash drive, before sending it to the I.R.S.  Floppy discs are available at the circulation desk for $1.00 each but flash drives are not available.

Library staff members are not tax experts and cannot answer any tax related questions or advise you on how to fill out your returns, and they cannot fill out the return for you, so please do not ask them!
